Child Records

On registration with Rydale Children Nursery, the details you have provided about you and your child will be placed in a locked secure filing cabinet. At the Nursery, we have a clear policy for managing all personal information securely and confidentially, and in accordance with Data Protection requirements.

For children in our Babies (2 months – 2 years) and Infants (2-3 years) rooms, daily day books are kept for children to include sleep times, nappy changes and a brief account of the day’s activities. These books are passed to you at the end of each day. Your child’s allocated key person will also regularly record milestones and achievements in the form of observations, closely linking with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.

For children in the Preschool (3 years to school age) room regular observations are completed by your child’s key person linking with the Early years Foundation Stage to enable us to best support each child’s play, learning and development. These records will be kept at the Nursery but you are of course welcome to read them at any time.

Accidents and Incidents

In the event of an accident to a child or member of staff the nearest ‘First Aider’ would administer appropriate first aid. However, in the event of a more serious accident, a senior staff member would be called to decide on further action to be taken and the parent/career informed immediately. All accidents/incidents are recorded and kept on file in the office to be signed by the parent/career on collection. Should a child sustain an injury outside of nursery we would request that you inform us fully and complete and sign an accident/incident/existing injuries form on arrival. Significant behavioural incidents will also be recorded and a parent/career signature required.

Safeguarding Children

At Rydale Children’s Nursery, we believe that children have the right to be completely secure from both the fear and reality of abuse, and we are committed to protecting all the children in our care from harm.

The Nursery has an appointed member of staff as the Safeguarding Children Officer. This will be displayed on the staff photo board. The Safeguarding Children Officer has suitable experience, training and expertise, and is responsible for liaising with social services, the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB), the Early Years department and Ofsted in any Safeguarding matter.

The Nursery Safeguarding Children procedures comply with all relevant legislation including the Children Act 1989, the Children Act 2004 and other guidance or advice from the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB). These are currently ‘Safeguarding Our Children’ and ‘What to do if you’re worried a child is being abused’ poster and booklet.

The Nursery is committed to reviewing its Safeguarding policy and procedures at regular intervals. The policy and its procedures will be shared with parents/careers during their child’s settling in period.

Staff Recruitment

The majority of our staff hold a recognised childcare qualification or are undergoing childcare training. Any unqualified staff have good childcare knowledge and experience and will be mentored by our experienced and qualified staff.  Regular First Aid and safeguarding children training is undertaken by all of our staff, and a range of other training is provided both in-house and externally to support staff’s continuing professional development. All staff at Rydale are CRB checked and a rigorous recruitment and vetting procedure is in place prior to staff being offered employment in the nursery.

Sometimes parents ask the nursery staff to ‘babysit’ for their child outside of their working hours away from the nursery premises. Please be aware that should you ask a member of our staff to do this, it is a private agreement between yourself and the member of staff and Rydale nursery are not liable for their staff at this time.
